There are plenty of Counsellors out there, why should I choose Aria Wellbeing?

Great question!!

When looking for a counsellor or positive psychology coach, it is important to consider what qualifications they have.  At Aria Wellbeing, our lead coach Matt has an Honours degree (first class) in Psychological Science.  This degree is accredited by the Australian Psychological Accreditation Council (APAC).  Matt is also an Associate Member of both the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA).  If you are looking for a new counsellor or positive psychology coach, ask yourself what qualifications they have.  Would you rather someone with knowledge and training in psychology like Matt, or someone with none or little at all?  In addition, Matt holds a Graduate Certificate in Science (Sports and Exercise), Graduate Certificate in Counselling, and an Undergraduate Certificate in Sustainable Living to complement a holistic view on wellbeing.

Matt’s qualifications

  • Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) First Class CQUniversity (2017/2018)
  • Bachelor of Psychological Science with Distinction CQUniversity (2012/2016)
  • Postgraduate studies in Applied Positive Psychology CQUniversity (2019)
  • Associate Member of The Australian Psychological Society (2019)
  • Graduate Certificate in Science (General) focused on Sports and Exercise University of Southern Queensland (2021)

  • Undergraduate Certificate of Sustainable Living University of Tasmania (2021)
  • Associate Member of Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA)
How is counselling and positive psychology coaching different from traditional psychology?

Aria Wellbeing draws on counselling and positive psychology coaching to provide you with the tools and understanding to move your life from simply surviving to flourishing.

Positive psychology is a scientific approach to studying human thoughts, feelings, and behaviour, with a focus on strengths instead of weaknesses, building the good in life instead of repairing the bad.

Positive psychology focuses on the positive events and influences in life, including:

Positive experiences (like happiness, joy, inspiration, and love).
Positive states and traits (like gratitude, resilience, and compassion).
Positive institutions (applying positive principles within entire organizations and institutions).

As a field, positive psychology spends much of its time thinking about topics like character strengths, optimism, life satisfaction, happiness, wellbeing, gratitude, compassion (as well as self-compassion), self-esteem and self-confidence, hope, and elevation.

If during our sessions, it is identified that you may benefits from specialist support from a clinical psychologist, or other healthcare professional, we will discuss this with you to ensure your needs are catered for.

How many sessions will I need?

There isn’t a set number and will different between individuals.  Some clients may choose 1 or 2 for some targeted guidance, while others may opt for several sessions.  Often clients will incorporate our services longer term, as a trusted counsellor and mentor.

How long does each session take?

Our standard session is 50mins.  However, if longer appointments are required, these can be arranged as we are flexible and here to support you.

How are the sessions delivered?
We offer in-person appointments at Paddington and Telehealth appointments by phone or video.  The choice is yours.
How do I make payments?

We accept payments via credit or debit cards.  For appointments booked online, the booking system Hotdoc will process the payments after the appointment is complete.  We are a private billing practice and not eligible for Medicare for private health rebates.  Payments can also be made by EFTPOS on the day.

In person and Telehealth consultations are available on Friday afternoons and all-day Sunday for your after-hours convenience.  We are based out of the Urban Wellbeing Centre on Latrobe Terrace at Paddington. Additional appointment availability coming soon.
